I Accept You

We hear the word acceptance almost everyday: accepting mistakes, accepting apologies, accepting awards, acceptance speeches and many other variations of the word. But, how many of us know what it feels like to be truly accepted? To be accepted for all that we really are? Our flaws, failures, appearances, mistakes, orientation, race, nationality, gender, sexuality, religion, caste, creed, status and everything else that we stand for. I hate to break it to you, but I don't think we have. Let alone be accepted by the world, some of us aren't accepted by our own families. We can deny all we want, but for how long will you run away from the truth? Parents sending their kids to the top educational institutions and foreign universities, to broaden their horizons, bu those same children find themselves stifled in their own homes. They can't even voice their opinions, and even if the manage to find the courage to speak up, their families fail to listen. It's ridiculous to see what this world is turning out to be. How do you explain being accepted by people you met just a few weeks ago, but not by the people who've known you your whole lives? Is it ignorance, indifference, age ? I honestly don't know! When i think of it, the only word that comes to my mind is 'madness', pure, unadulterated 'madness'. And to all those kids who have their heads in the clouds and think you're better than everyone else and find some sort of twisted pleasure in bringing others down by picking on them, you don't know what their story is, so be a little kinder and accept them for who they are. This world would be a lot better if we use the energy we spend on bringing each other down to build each other up instead.  We could really use a little kindness in our lives. And to all those narrow minded "old people" (for lack of a better word at this moment) who think that girls are a burden, you're DEAD WRONG! You'll be surprised by what we can do, but you shouldn't be, as a matter of fact, you should expect it! And to those who pity the deaf, dumb, blind and crippled, DON'T, they own their disabilities and it's time we did too. And lastly, to you, yes you, the one totally relating to everything I've just said, the one who struggles to find "Acceptance", I accept you, I believe in you and I know that one day you and I, we'll do great things, we'll touch the sky and then, those same people who didn't accept you, and never had any faith in you, they'll have no choice but to stand in awe of us.

Xoxo Erica.
